Dinner & A Movie
Unadulterated Consumption
Inspired by Larry Clark's Kids (1995)
This piece is reflective of the hectic, raw, and confusing nature that encompasses youth. The lack of a focal point and emptiness in the center of the composition captures that sense of confusion that is felt while growing up. The contrast of "mature" items such as the alcohol, cigarettes, and drug paraphernalia with the child-like peanut butter and jelly and hobby of skateboarding suggests the sense of a coming of age experience. This variety of items, kid friendly and not, is a nod to the adult supervision and guidance that some lack during the transition between childhood and adulthood that makes the experience more confusing and awakening than it otherwise would be.
